Community Outreach - Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Shawl Ministry started in 1998 by two women in Hartford, Connecticut. They decided to combine their caring for others and love of knitting and crochet in creating an "embracing gift symbolic of an inclusive,  unconditionally loving God." The concept has grown and swept the nation as a multi-faith movement.

Knitters begin each shawl with prayers for those whom the finished project is intended--those undergoing medical procedures or as a comfort after a loss. Often shawls are given as special blessings celebrating a marriage, birth of a child, or as a special activity for like-minded folks to meet and make new friends.

The Center for Creative Thought became a part of this ministry in November 2006. We are known as the Blessed Be Prayer Shawl Ministry. We gather together on the first Sunday of each month at 1 o'clock at a member's home to lovingly participate.

For more information regarding this ministry, you may contact Rev. Joyce Zorger at 805-489-5858.
